The Campus is a joint initiative of the Margaret River Senior High School, Department of Training, South Regional TAFE, Curtin University and Edith Cowan University.

It represents best regional education practice that allows learners at secondary, vocational and tertiary levels to seamlessly transition through various courses that begin at high school and can culminate in post- doctoral studies.

Through the co-location of these education providers, facilities and expertise can be shared across these sectors, providing educational opportunities rarely found outside the metropolitan area. The idea for the Campus grew out of recognition that the fast expanding wine industry of the South West required educational support at all levels, from vineyard hand and cellar keepers, to hospitality staff through to winemakers and viticulture research.

The campus has been located on a portion of the Margaret River Senior High School farm site that provides a magnificent backdrop for the campus buildings, while being a five minute walk from the main street of Margaret River that has provided an extra degree of vibrancy to the town.

Training helps you create a brighter future

The facilities on the campus are outstanding and what you would expect in a modern campus including:

  • Training Winery

  • Sensory Evaluation and Research Laboratory

  • Training Commercial Kitchen

The philosophy of the campus is to provide a variety of academic pathways for students and remove obstacles to higher learning.

Margaret River Senior High school students have access to the campus facilities and Year 11 and 12 students take part in on-campus courses in art, horticulture, IT, viticulture and wine making. The campus offers high school students the unique opportunity to gain vocational qualifications prior to finishing school and continue their education at the campus.

The campus opened in April 2004 and currently has approximately 500 students enrolled completing a myriad of qualifications, including academic courses and vocational programs, developed in consultation with local business, industry and the community to provide the best and most locally applicable courses possible.

Centre of Excellence

Located on the Margaret River Campus is the South West's Centre of Excellence for wine making. The facility has a State of the art wine tasting laboratory, temperature controlled, with neutral air constantly being renewed along with built in spittoons for each person with running water and white tasting benches making an excellent environment for sensory evaluation. Additionally the facility contains a wine cellar, preparation room and research laboratory. The main laboratory is well set up with the required equipment for winery analysis.

The winery is set up for small batch winemaking, ranging from experimental batches of 10L to larger stainless steel tanks ranging in size from 200L-500L allowing for more commercial volumes to be made by students. Oak barrels are also used in the process. Refrigeration is an essential part of modern winemaking and the winery has three cool rooms that can be set to various temperatures for different stages of winemaking.

The winery is situated in the heart of Margaret River which is considered to be one of the most premium wine growing regions in the world. Many local wineries support the Centre of excellence by donating grapes for students to make wine. The wineries also support the winemaking students by offering employment in various parts of their wineries and vineyards.

Computers Printing and Photocopiers

There are three computer rooms on campus with a total of 50 computers.

  • Computer Lab C4 (20 computers, 1 printer)

  • Computer Lab C5 (20 computers, 1 printer)

  • 24 hour computer lab (10 computers, 1 printer)

There is a photocopier in the library. In order to print, students must load money onto their Student ID Card. Please see Administration staff. Black and white printing is 10cents per sheet or 20cents for double sided printing. Colour printing is available via a USB drive available through reception – 60c per A4 page, $1 per A3 page.

Parking

Two car-parks are available for students. We recommend that you lock your vehicle at all times. Disabled bays are located in front of the Administration Block and the Winery. Cars displaying an ACROD sticker are permitted to park in these bays. Bicycle racks are located near each building. It is recommended that you secure your bike whilst on Campus. Helmets may be left at Reception during office hours

The Institute has a mandatory speed limit of 10km per hour on the entry of the Campus grounds. Vehicle speed is monitored and infringements may be issued to person speeding.
