Information for Mature Age Students and Alumni

Training at the South West Institute of Technology is a springboard to a wide range of careers and provides for those who want to continue to enhance their knowledge and skills to secure their independence and quality of life through access to opportunities for continuing personal and professional development.

The current demand for skilled employees in a broad range of industries, the changes in people’s employment arrangements over a lifetime and the growth in knowledge based jobs for newly emerging industries and occupations often prompts the need for further study in order to gain a promotion at work or to embark on an entirely different career.

The South West Institute of Technology also offers opportunities for those who are currently employed in industry to gain formal recognition for the skills they’ve acquired in the workplace through the Recognition of Prior Learning process as this provides an alternate way of demonstrating and gaining acknowledgement for competencies attained.  Available through the Institute, this process will enable you to accelerate the process of gaining a qualification and enhance your own professional development.   Local employers have appreciated the benefits obtained in quality assurance, performance and  productivity derived from the investment in  acquisition of accredited qualifications for existing workers, a strategy that is also now supported for a number of vocations through government funding arrangements.

Committed to the ethos of life long learning and given the breadth of courses available at the South West Institute of Technology we are able to provide mature age students and our former students (alumni) with the opportunity to access or continue their studies in their chosen field without having to travel to Perth.

Full time, part time and flexible delivery modes often provide students with a range of training delivery options that can be integrated with their busy lifestyles and work commitments.

With a profile of courses that reflects the employment needs of the local economy, the Institute is well placed to deliver training for employment in the major industry sectors that are active in the South West region and contribute to the economic and social prosperity of the region.
