A Tertiary Entrance Rank is not the only way of getting into university in Western Australia with a significant number of students using qualifications as a stepping stone to achieving this goal. Completing a Certificate IV qualification may, in many cases provide a minimum entry requirement whilst a diploma or advanced diploma may enhance aspirant students’ chances of selection. A qualification is not a guarantee that students will gain university admission as minimum entrance requirements may have to be met.
In some cases however, by successfully completing a qualification students can reduce the time it takes to earn a degree. Students can make application to gain advanced standing or credit for previous studies but because this may be variable from university to university students should contact the relevant institution to determine details relevant to their particular situation.
Undertaking Institute training as a precursor to university studies provides students with a raft of technical skills and knowledge that augments professional education and provides students with current expertise and the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the labour market. Confident in the knowledge that graduates have practical experience and the appropriate industry relevant training, prospective employers are keen to take on students who have the capacity to apply their skills and technical knowledge in the workplace.
Apart from the Institute providing a springboard to university studies, students are actively encouraged to return to the Institute to upskill or retrain for alternative careers and acquire new skills throughout their lives ensuring that these are relevant to the contemporary work environment. By the same token, university students who complete degree programmes may choose to subsequently undertake Institute training to gain the requisite practical insights in a chosen occupation.
