Promoting our Institute at Schools

Responsive to the needs of parents, teachers and school students, the staff of the Course Information Service at the South West Institute of Technology offer a valuable service to local school students, teachers and parents through the provision of:

  • Information and advice on study options which includes full time, part time, flexible  and external studies
  • Course entry requirements
  • Course costs
  • Assistance with preparing and processing applications for full time study

The current demand for skilled employees in a broad range of industries, the changes in people’s employment arrangements over a lifetime and the growth in knowledge based jobs for newly emerging industries and occupations can add to the difficulty of making important career choices and identifying the appropriate course of study required.  Our staff are able to assist you to work through the complexities of selecting a training programme and are able to outline pathways to match identified career aspirations.

School visits

The role of the Course Information Service is to provide students with current information on the qualifications that are available at this Institute and assist them in lodging applications to study through TAFE.  Visiting local schools and addressing students in year 10, 11 and 12 is an integral part of the service that we provide to facilitate a better understanding of minimum entry requirements and addressing the selection criteria for entry to competitive courses.

Although we specifically promote qualifications that are available at the South West Institute of Technology, we are able to provide general assistance about qualifications offered at campuses throughout the State.

Campus Tours

In response to requests from staff at local schools the Course Information Service Officers regularly conduct tours of the Bunbury Campus of the South West Institute of Technology. Many students have found these tours to be extremely useful and can assist students who have yet to decide on their future career path.  These tours can be tailored to meet the needs of the students and may include a visit to a class in progress.

Career Events hosted by Schools

Staff from the Course Information Service welcome the opportunity to participate in career events, open days or expos hosted by local high schools.  We are able to mount displays and provide brochures promoting the courses available at the Institute.  A member of the team will be on hand to field questions about studying through the South West Institute of Technology and can discuss training options and career pathways with prospective students.
